Entertainment, Relaxation and Culture; Nights at the S Hotel Montego Bay

26 Jun 2019

“How can anything possible be this beautiful,” I thought as I arrived at the S Hotel. There was a beautiful view of Doctor’s Cave Beach as soon as you entered the S Hotel in Montego Bay. I mean you could literally see the beach from the check in desk. The designers had clearly put some thought into the renovation of the building, and this could be seen in the artful combination of discreet urban sophistication, and the authentic rootsy vibe that was felt when you looked at the history that was beautifully displayed on the hotel walls.

Laid-back, welcoming and irie are just a few of the words that come to mind when describing the unmatched vibe of Jamaica. Despite being one of the most popular islands in the Caribbean, the county lives up to its motto “Out of Many, One People,” by making all those who land on its sandy shores feel at home from the moment they arrive.

Travel boss Julian Bernard (@traveljefe) would definitely agree that Jamaica is easy to fall in love with. On his recent trip, Julian let his worries float away as he explored the uniqueness of the island.

This time around, my travels took me to Montego Bay in beautiful Jamaica with its white sandy beaches, delectable cuisine, and its rich culture.

After having a pretty smooth and relaxing flight, I looked out of the window and saw the beauty of the Caribbean; I was eager to land and commence my exciting Jamaican adventure.

Once I arrived at the airport and gone through the motions, I picked up my luggage and headed to the S hotel, an ultra-chic boutique hotel overlooking Jamaica’s Famed Doctor’s Cave Beach and the Hip Strip.

Hotel Review: S Hotel Jamaica in Montego Bay

21 Mar 2019

A decade ago the Spanish Court Hotel radically shook up the Kingston, Jamaica, hotel scene by opening the city’s first truly cosmopolitan, design-driven, ultra-chic boutique hotel. Now they’ve done the same for Montego Bay, and it couldn’t come soon enough: the popular resort city has been crying for an urban property that’s not a colossal all-inclusive or a hotel that feels, well, passé. Here’s why the S Hotel Jamaica, perfectly consistent with its Kingston counterpart, is my new MoBay go-to spot.

A sleek boutique addition to Montego Bay’s famed “Hip Strip”. S Hotel greets guests with a flowing water feature, a lobby wrapped in coral stone and a polished walkway made from local Jatoba hardwood. Features such as a rooftop lounge make this a standout among area hotels.

Location

Perched on the shores of iconic Doctor’s Cave Beach and located on the “Hip Strip”, with restaurants and shops just steps away. Usain Bolt’s popular Tracks and Records restaurant flanks the car park; Jamaica’s first Starbucks Coffee is next door and Sangster International Airport is around 15 minutes' drive away.

S Hotel mixes contemporary and Jamaican vibes

19 Feb 2019

MONTEGO BAY -- There's a hotel's pre-opening hype, and then there's the first view of the property. And, sometimes, those first impressions just don't match the expectations set by the adjectives injected into the avalanche of press releases prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

But I recently toured a property that not only exceeded my expectations in term of design but went far beyond my expectations in regard to showcasing contributions to Jamaican culture, history and vibe.

The S Hotel Jamaica is set to make its debut this month along Doctor’s Cave Beach in Montego Bay. Miami-based design firm Antrobus Ramirez oversaw the design of the interiors, which will draw heavily from Jamaican history and culture.

Artisanal weaving techniques will be featured in 20-foot-long rattan cane screen panels, while cut stone typical of Jamaica architecture will adorn the lobby, which is anchored by a central boardwalk crafted from local Jatoba hardwood. Wrapped in coral stone walls, the 25-foot-tall lobby will also feature work from local lumber artist Tamara Harding.
